The energy in Tulum had built up in such a manner that we all knew our journey would continue to unfold in miraculous ways that were out of our hands. Only Mother Earth and the ancient Maya knew what was about to happen or where this all was leading.

And this is exactly what the present-day Maya have since said to all of us. In cryptic words, last August 2003, they told us that by December 15, 2003, we would enter a new world. And that in the interim, there would perhaps be chaos all around us.

I feel that our journey in Mayaland was demonstrating the nature of this shift that is about to come for us all. For truly, our world is a dream — and its dream nature is becoming more obvious.

In fact, the Dreamer is about to wake up! Even more importantly, the dream itself can now be changed.

After November 8, 2003, when there will be a total lunar eclipse and a Grand Sextile of planets — the astrological event that's being called the Harmonic Concordance — we will all soon realize that the dream is really "only light and intention." This is my belief. The portal to the Fourth Dimension will begin to open wide.

What does this mean? It means that we are out of time. We must really take responsibility for our thoughts, feelings, and emotions, now. For each one of us is the Dreamer. And what we dream will become real in this world.

The Inner Worlds and the Outer Worlds will begin to merge into One. This is the belief of not only the Maya but many other groups and prophets as well (see my upcoming editorial for the November 2003 Spirit of Ma'at). And in creating this Oneness, we must first burn away the dross of duality, the negativity with which we have lived for so long.

And so, appropriately, the next phase of our Sacred Journey in Mayaland seemed to present a pattern for this preparation we are all going through now. In the two days of our trip from Tulum to Palenque, we all experienced a cohesive series of experiences and ceremonies that seemed designed to take us all to the next level of being.

As we realize, the major aspect of polarity consciousness has been represented in our evolution as the duality of male and female. And so it was natural that, in the healing of this aspect, our group became whole.

As with all initiation ceremonies, it began with cleansing. It ended with the releasing of the negative side of the female energy that has been so prominent down through the ages.

When we came forth from the final integration ceremony at Chicanna, which for many was the peak experience of our journey, we would truly be ready to shoulder the responsibility for assisting the world to integrate all polarities and move into Oneness.

The Bacalar Lagoon

Upon leaving Tulum, we headed for Palenque, several hundred miles southeast of our all-inclusive hotel. Along the way — in a trip that lasted two days — we would visit several important sites. At one of these, Kohunlich, we would continue the crystal placements from my earlier trip with Ken Page. At others — and of equal importance — we would be creating powerful ceremonies to move ourselves out of the male-female polarities of the past thousands of years, in preparation for the higher-level work we had yet to do in Palenque.

The cleansing preparation for these ceremonies began for us, on the day after Tulum, at a large, beautiful cenote that's called the Bacalar Lagoon. Because of its changing hues, it is known as the "Lagoon of Seven Colors." We had left early in the morning, and we arrived just past noon.

The Bacalar Lagoon is renowned for its cleansing, balancing, and grounding properties, and this is just what we were needing in preparation for what was to come.

The events that happened at this cenote seemed quite different for different people. There was a lakeside restaurant that served lobster and other wonderful seafood delicacies, and that was a treat for everyone. But after eating, people seemed to go in many different directions.

playing in the lagoonSome simply sat by the lagoon in meditation. Others went swimming (and based on the sounds of splashing and laughter I heard drifting off the water, I think that many joyous childhood summers were remembered).

I could not immerse myself in the waters. Instead, I was called to perform an entity removal during our time at the lagoon — a healing like the one we had done with the woman at Chichen Itza. This experience was not as intense as the first, but I realized that the negative energy we were dealing with on this journey still needed attention before we could move into the Light as a group.

And at this Blue Lagoon, we also had to deal with tragedy — though thankfully, not our own. For even as we were eating, swimming, healing, and playing there, one man — the guide for another group — apparently chose to use the Bacalar Lagoon as a jumping off point to Higher Realms. His friends saw him swimming in the middle of that huge, beautiful lake. And the next time they looked, he was gone. By the time we left, more than an hour had elapsed since the man's disappearance.

We could not stay, so we don't know the outcome. Well fed, happy — yet made thoughtful by this event — we piled back into the bus and drove on to our hotel in Chetumal, the capital of Quintana Roo, just a few miles north of the Belize border.

Kohunlich — The Third Eye

The next morning, we went to nearby Kohunlich — the place of the Third Eye Chakra — where we would complete the crystal ceremony that Ken and I had begun so many years before.

Kohunlich, 1985: When Ken and I first attempted to reach Kohunlich in Quintana Roo, eighteen years before, we encountered the "nature of the Dream" that I spoke about in my introduction to this letter.

Just as our group did last Spring, Ken and I spent the night in Chetumal. Then, early the next morning, we eagerly jumped into our rented car — as excited as little kids — and prepared for another day of following the instructions of Thoth.

The local people in Chetumal gave us a map that showed exactly how to get to Kohunlich. They told us that this site had only just been discovered. So far, only one major pyramid had been excavated.

In minutes we were "off to see the wizard."

Desperately Seeking Kohunlich

The map and directions seemed pretty simple, and we didn't give them much thought. But when we arrived at the spot where the map said Kohunlich should have been, it was not there. Nor was there anything even remotely resembling Kohunlich at that location.

Not knowing what to do, we headed back to town, speculating that maybe the map makers had made a mistake, and trying to think of who might know where Kohunlich was.

Driving into Chetumal, we saw someone walking down the street who looked like some sort of government official. So we pulled over to talk with him, and showed him our map. He laughed. "No, no," he said, "Kohunlich is not there. They made a mistake. I have taken my children there before, and I know right where it is." So he showed us on the map where it really was, and told us how to get there.

We thanked the man and immediately headed off, feeling a bit disapointed that we had already wasted so much time. And as we drove along, since the place we'd now been instructed to go to was not even close to what it said on the map, we made jokes about the map makers.

But when we arrived at the place where we'd been told to go, Kohunlich was not there.

Now, we actually began to become a little upset. Twice, we had wasted more than an hour looking for this place, all to no avail.

As we headed back to Chetumal, we resolved that we were not going to let this happen again. We thought very carefully about who would know the location of Kohunlich, and decided to find a taxi driver. Taxi drivers, we reasoned, had to take people to the site, so they would surely know where it was. So as we entered the town, we found a taxi and asked the driver to tell us how to get to Kohunlich.

This guy said, "Oh, si, I know where it is. I take people there all the time. Let me see your map, and I will show you." He looked at the map, laughing when he saw the two places we had gone to before. "Man, they were so wrong. Here! This is where it is located. Of this I am certain." He even drew the route for us to get there, right on our map.

We thanked him, gave him a tip, and headed away, confident that finally we were going to reach Kohunlich.

But deja vu struck again. And it was our third strike. So far, Kohunlich had avoided our every attempt to be with her. I was actually beginning to wonder if the place actually existed at all.

And so, feeling defeated, we pulled over to the side of the road, stopped the motor, sat back, and just stared into the jungle. We couldn't think of anything else to do.

After a while, Ken broke our glum silence. "Drunvalo," he said, "this temple site is the Third Eye. Right?"

"Yes."

He looked directly at me. "Maybe that is the only way we can find it."

"W..what do you mean," I stuttered.

"Maybe we have to use our Third Eye and our psychic abilities to find it. Maybe Thoth did this as a test? Perhaps we have to use our ability to see and sense remotely."

I had not thought along these lines before on this trip, and I had never heard Ken talk like this in his life. But it certainly made sense, and I felt he was right. "Okay, let's do it. What do you suggest?"

"You use your psychic abilities to find Kohunlich," he answered. "And I'll drive."

"Gee, thanks, Ken."

But I closed my eyes and looked inside and asked where Kohunlich was, and after a few moments opened my eyes again. And I think what followed may have had more of an impact than any other single event on opening Ken up to the subtle worlds and higher possibilities.

I told Ken to turn around and head back the other way. Then, in a few miles, I felt the energy of Kohunlich in another direction, and pointed to the road where I thought he should turn. By this time, neither of us had any idea where we were. But Ken obeyed without objection.

This manner of driving continued for about seventy-five miles — perhaps an hour and a half. Although we were totally lost the whole time, whenever we came to a likely-looking intersection, I looked inside and then made a decision.

And then it happened. We were moving through dense jungle down this little dirt road in the middle of absolutely nowhere, when a tiny road sign appeared that said, "Kohunlich." And there was a little arrow pointing the way.

Ken got so excited, I almost thought he was going to have a heart attack. In that moment, he saw absolutely that the human spirit was truly able to reach into the unknown for something to be known. This demonstration offered no room for doubt. For me, I was able to appreciate the wisdom that had guided this day's events. But for Ken, it was life-changing. From that moment on, he was never the same.

Grecian Ruins in the Yucatan Jungles?

Sun Mask at Kohunlich
photo by LionfireKohunlich was a beautiful site, hidden deep in the jungle, where ponds of water were covered with floating lotus flowers. And there, as we beheld the pyramid that was in the process of being excavated — the only one at that time — we witnessed yet another proof of Thoth's prescience.

For as I have said, Thoth told us that this site was oriented to the Sixth Chakra, the Third Eye. But there was so far no evidence that the ancient or modern Maya knew about this. Yet the front of this newly-excavated pyramid was covered with many, many faces in bas relief. About six feet high, they appeared to be past kings of the Maya — at least, that is what I thought they were. And at the center of the forehead on each and every one of those faces, right at the place of the Third Eye, there was a round, raised dot — just as the Third Eye is depicted in India today.

When Ken saw this, he was further transformed, and his transformation became evident in the events that followed on this strange day.

Excited, we took out our pendulums and began our search for the "right" location to place the crystal. Our spirits were high, but it turned out that the energy of this place was even higher, more intense even than what we had encountered in Tulum.

After a few hours of searching, we just sat down on the steps of a small temple and simply gave up. We had no idea how to proceed.

But after a few moments, Ken — with his newfound faith and trust — said, "Look, Drunvalo, we found this place with our psychic abilities, perhaps we should not be using our external pendulums. Perhaps we should go inside ourselves to find the answer."

I knew he was right. I also fully expected him to tell me to do it. But that's not what happened. Instead, he went inside himself to find the answer — and I have to admit I was feeling a bit like the proud father at this point (although actually I am Ken's uncle).

After about twenty minutes, then, Ken came out of his meditation and said, "I know exactly what we are looking for." He drew a picture representing a three-sided hole in the ground, a circle, and a tree. "The tree is at the apex of this large triangular hole. And this tiny hole is right between the larger one and the tree. It is in this tiny hole that we are to place the crystal."

This was very specific information, and I took him seriously. Then, of course, he looked at me and said, "Okay. Now, you find it."

I didn't mind.

Again, I closed my eyes, felt where this hole was, and pointed out into the jungle. "This way."

Now you have to understand that this area of Mexico contains real jungle. At least at that time, you could hardly see the sky at this site, and there were no trails to follow. So we just started heading in the directions I felt were right, tromping over anything that was in the way.

We walked for a mile or so when, very suddenly, I felt something off to my right. I stopped and closed my eyes to sense what it was, and felt that I was being pulled in the direction of a narrow valley bordered by two small hills covered with trees and brush.

We headed into this valley. And about halfway between the hills we encountered something so strange that even to this day, as I remember it, it doesn't seem possible. There, on the hill to our right, was a polished marble stairway! It was cut right out of the hill, about a hundred stairs extending up to the very top. And it appeared to be brand new. Further, it did not look Mayan. Perhaps Greek? It was smooth. The marble was tan- and cream-colored. And if that wasn't enough, there were railings all the way up! How could this staircase be here, in the middle of the jungle?

This was so surrealistic, Ken and I completely forgot about that special hole in the ground we were looking for. All we could do was climb the stairs to see where they led.

And there, at the top of this staircase in the middle of the jungle, we found a platform that offered a view all the way to the horizon. The platform was made of the same beautiful marble, and was surrounded by these Grecian benches. And not one inch beyond these marble steps and platform, there was nothing but dense jungle.

We were speechless. It was so weird.

But now we suddenly remembered the hole we were looking for, and felt its energy nearby.

I looked at Ken and pointed beyond the hilltop. "It's over there!"

So we returned to our search as though the stairway "mirage" had never happened, trudging off into the jungle, hearts racing, in the direction I had pointed.

And we found it. There was the larger hole, exactly as Ken had psychically seen. And as we both stood on the edge, looking down, I knew that Ken was coming of age. He had found it. Not me. This was so good. Just as he had seen, there was the little tree. And when I walked over to the tree, there was the little hole in the ground, just as he had said. There was no doubt, the crystal was to go into that little hole.

We said prayers over the crystal. We prayed for the Mayan people, both the ancient ones and those alive today, that they would remember who they were. We also prayed for the balancing of the female in the Unity Grid above the Earth. Then I dropped the crystal into the hole. I heard it bounce once. Then, I felt it falling a very long way down into the Earth. I knew our prayers were going to come true.

Feeling that our mission was over for this place, Ken and I sat crossed-legged at the wide end of the triangular hole and began to meditate together. After about a half hour, I came out of the meditation and stood up. Ken was still meditating. I walked over to the edge of the hill, and for the first time I could see "where" I was. From this vantage point, it was clear that the hill where I stood was really an ancient pyramid. It had been covered with earth and jungle growth.

At that moment, everything made sense.

Back in 2003

Drunvalo at Kohunlich
photo by LionFireAs our group arrived at Kohunlich, the memories of my earlier trip with Ken were vivid. Questions raced through my mind. Would it be the same? Were the staircase and the triangular hole still there? I had not yet told our group about the past events.

We started out by trekking to the primary pyramid — the one with the six-foot faces. At this point, we were all just being tourists, exploring and feeling the energies of this sacred site. Then I told everyone the story about the tiny hole. And, finally, we set off looking for the marble stairway.

But Kohunlich had changed, and for some reason, placing the new crystal in the same location as before was not meant to be. There were trails all through the site, now, and maps at various locations. We followed these trails for a while, going off in one direction, then returning and trying another trail.

Finally, we came to a wide, ancient stone staircase built into a fairly steep hill. It was nothing like the marble steps I'd found before — perhaps those really had been a dream? — but the place called to me. We all felt pulled to whatever was at the top of those stone stairs. So I knew that we would be doing our ceremony there.

As we reached the top, I could see that rather than being a pyramid or a sacred building, this area was actually a residence for the ancient Maya. There were tiny rooms everywhere, in a most beautiful arrangement, with wide-open courtyards where people could congregate. And it seemed the perfect place for what we had come here to do.

So I let go of the pyramid idea and the triangular hole, and found our perfect spot under some trees that offered shade from the blistering sun. We laid a "Cloth of the Sun" on the ground, a center point was chosen, and our altar began to take shape as different people added crystals and sacred objects to it. It was the same piece we had used in Tulum.

The group gathered in a circle around the altar, and again four people were chosen — two males and two females — to seal off the four directions.

As at Tulum, the head Mayan priest appeared out of the Earth in front of me, raising his arms to the sky, and placed four of his own people behind our keepers of the four directions. But then, many, many Mayans began to come out of the ground, in a circle slightly wider than our own. At first, only their heads appeared, spiraling around the circle. Then, slowly, as they kept circling, their bodies began to emerge out of Mother Earth. Finally, they were completely in the air.

They were dressed in brightly colored robes, with geometric designs painted on their faces and with feathers in their hair. Their energy was electric. I could sense that this ceremony was something they had predicted long ago, and that it was of great importance to them. They were very serious.

The actual unfoldment of the ceremony also was very different than at Tulum. In Tulum, many energetic pyramids had been created over a great distance to bring balance back to the land and bring in the rain. This time, only one, huge pyramid was created. And its purpose, I understood, had to do with the psychic awakening of the Mayan people.

I don't really understand all that transpired with these ancient Mayans during that ceremony. I do know that my heart kept getting lighter and lighter. LionFire says that the Maya, when they left, took with them all the negative energy that we had been dealing with in our group up to that time, and buried it deep, deep in Mother Earth. Whatever happened, it made us all very happy. I remember looking up, directly after the ceremony, and noticing that I was totally surrounded with the smiling faces of our group.

What happened then was a reflection of what had gone before — so perhaps LionFire is right about the cleansing effect. People began to hug each other and play. There was this tremendous sense of well being in all of us. Watching, I realized how perfect it was for us to be doing this in the actual living quarters of the ancient Maya.

And the next day, with this newfound lightness, we were going to be plunging back into difficult inner work. We would be visiting the sites that represented the dark side of the male and female energies. And we would be doing two incredible ceremonies there to release forever from our beingness the male-female polarities — leaving us free, with all of our divine strength.

But for today, our work was done. Gaily, we all headed back to the bus.

Yes, I was still looking around for that pyramid with the marble staircase and the triangular hole. But somehow, I knew I was not going to find it.

In Love and Service,

Drunvalo
