Dendrobium Oriental Smile
'Fantasy' AD/AOS
Dear Orchid Friends:
Florida Sunsets are some of the greatest pleasures.
Another is Dendrobium Oriental Smile 'Fantasy'
AD/AOS. This orchid looks like a Florida sunset
and is aptly named. Petals and sepals are a blend of
yellow/orange/deep rose colors. The lateral petals
have wavy edges, while the other petals are
elliptical. This arrangement makes for a lovely
flower. The lip is full and wavy - a lemon yellow
color blending to magenta on the lower lip. the lip
has delicate hairs giving it a velvety appearance.
This nobile-type dendrobium has upright canes. Leaves
are elliptical and this particular variety does not
drop its leaves. Dendrobium Oriental Smile 'Fantasy'
AD/AOS is an awarded plant. Just looking at the
breathtaking flowers one can see why it has won awards.
This orchid flowers vigorously. Flowers are borne on
short stems that are close to the cane stalks. Each
individual stem produces 4-5 flowers. The canes procude
a lovely column of flowers - what a sight! Flowers are
long-lasting and have a wonderful aroma. Flowers have a
faint citrusy fragrance in the early part of the day.
The plant blooms late spring to summer.
Dendrobium Oriental Smile 'Fantasy' AD/AOS
does like bright light and gets direct morning sun
until nearly mid day, then bright indirect light.
This orchid requires more water than other
dendrobiums.
Florida sunrises and sunsets are indescribable.
Dendrobium Oriental Smile 'Fantasy' AD/AOS is
another gorgeouus work of Mother Nature (and the
hybridizers!). So enjoy your Mai-Tai, Tequila Sunrise
or Mimosa and drink in the beauty of this orchid.
Until next time,
Vivi
